Pakistan Eager for A New Chapter in Ties with Iran: Zardari
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari said his country is willing and determined to open a new chapter in the relations with neighboring Iran.
In a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, held in Islamabad on Monday, Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s push to enhance relations with Iran in all fields, saying the Pakistani officials are determined to open a new chapter in relations with Iran.
He considered the love and affection of the two nations for the revered Muslim imams, especially Imam Reza (AS), as the reason for the deep-rooted brotherhood between the two countries.
The president of Pakistan then condemned the crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the defenseless people of Gaza and voiced his country’s opposition to any foreign interference in the region.
For his part, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said the religious, cultural and civilizational commonalities of the two nations strengthen their ties and pave the way for the development of relations between two states.
He stated that maintaining stability and security is one of the conditions and requirements for the realization of economic goals, his official website reported.
Iran considers Pakistan's security as its own security, Raisi added, stressing the need to use the capacity of the common border for the benefit of the two nations.
He further described the issue of Palestine as the overriding priority in the Islamic world, saying, “Today, Imam Khomeini's lofty goal of liberating the Holy Quds has become the demand of all free Muslim nations and all Islamic governments must fulfil their duties in this field.”
The Iranian president held several meetings with top Pakistani officials during his visit to Islamabad before leaving the Pakistani capital for Lahore on Tuesday morning.
