Iran, Russia to Launch New Direct Flight: Russia's Deputy Transport Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russia’s deputy roads minister said a new direct flight between Iran and Russia.

Dmitry Zverev termed the quadruple increase of road cargo transport from Russia via Iran as a significant step and added that it is planned that the transportation of cargo through Iran (International North-South Transport Corridor) will reach four million tons a year.

He described launching the new direct flight between the two countries and setting up companies for cooperating in the transportation sector as good achievements in this field.

Cooperation between Iran and Russia is beneficial not only for the region but also for the world’s transportation policies, Zverev highlighted, Mehr news agency reported.

Back in December, Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development said that the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a 7,200-km long multi-mode network of ship, rail and road routes for moving freight between India, Iran, Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe.

Iranian officials have estimated that the Rasht-Astara railroad will allow for the transportation of one million passengers as well as 10 million tons of cargo in the first year of service.
