Iran Ready to Help Lebanon Build Power Plants

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed the country’s readiness to cooperate with Lebanon and assist the Arab country in handling the energy crisis and constructing power plants.

The top Iranian diplomat, who has traveled to Beirut, held a meeting with Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday for talks about the issues of mutual interest.

On bilateral cooperation, Amirabdollahian underlined the necessity for closer relations between Tehran and Beirut in various fields, especially given the existing potentials to promote economic and trade ties.

He added that Iran is ready to work with Lebanon toward solving its energy and electricity crisis, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The foreign minister further noted that Iran is ready to share its experiences with Beirut and provide it with technical assistance in the fields of construction and operation of power plants as well as related maintenance work.

He then reaffirmed Iran's support for stability of Lebanon and for the Lebanese government, nation, resistance and army.

The top Iranian diplomat also stated that Lebanon's problems, including the election of its president and the completion of the political processes, should be handled and resolved by the Lebanese themselves and through dialogue and consensus among the Lebanese political factions.

Amirabdollahian emphasized that if foreign help and initiatives are accompanied by goodwill and approved by the Lebanese government and people, they can serve the purpose of supporting the Lebanese people's choice without interference in the country’s internal affairs.

He finally outlined Iran’s stance on the developments in Palestine, Yemen, Sudan, Afghanistan and Ukraine.

For his part, Mikati highlighted the importance of relations between Lebanon and Iran.

He explained the current situation in Lebanon and welcomed the agreement on the restoration of diplomatic ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Mikati also outlined his views about the positive impacts of Tehran-Riyadh détente on regional issues.

Describing Iran as an important country in the region, he thanked Tehran for its constructive policy on Lebanon and highlighted the significance of ties between the two Muslim states.
